Celebrating Dental Assistants week with Penny

In honor of Dental Assistants week, we are highlighting our office’s one and only dental assistant, Penny Dzierwinski!

When you are in the office, you can find Penny working closely beside Dr. Cole or helping to keep our clinic running smoothly in the back. With a helping hand and a friendly face, Penny helps to make sure our patients are comfortable throughout their dental visits.

Read below to learn more about Penny:

  1. Why did you become a dental assistant?
    • I am a Mom to 4 kids and spent 17 years at home watching them and running a daycare for our friends’ and family’s kids. As my kids grew out of the house, I knew I wanted to do something for myself with my new free time. I heard about the dental assisting program at CCTEC and even though I felt nervous that it was at a later point in my life that I was starting something completely brand new, applied to be a part of the program. Because of the timing, I began the program later than the rest of the class. My teachers and the people in the program were so great at helping me get on the same speed as everyone. As part of my rotations, I was able to rotate at this office and experience pediatric dentistry firsthand. I loved working with Dr. Bill and was offered a job working at the practice right after I finished the program. The rest is history!
  2. What is your favorite thing about working with kids every day?
    • Their honesty – Kids will always tell you how it is and don’t hold back.
  3. What is your tried and true way to help get a nervous patient to smile
    • Getting to know the patient and talking to them usually helps our most nervous patients relax. Showing them everything we use throughout the appointment helps a lot too. Talking about the prizes at the end doesn’t hurt either!
